ETP Manufacturer & Supplier — Lucknow

UPPCB-compliant ETP, ZLD, and STP systems for Lucknow's pharmaceutical, dairy, hospital, and garment manufacturing sectors — Gomti basin compliance for Amausi and Chinhat industrial areas

Industry Overview

ETP Manufacturer & Supplier — Lucknow

Lucknow sits at the centre of a growing industrial belt where pharmaceutical formulation, dairy and food processing, and healthcare are the dominant sectors. The Amausi industrial area near the airport and the Chinhat UPSIDC industrial area east of the city house a growing cluster of pharma formulation units, food manufacturers, and light engineering companies. What makes Lucknow unusual is the combination: pharma units generating solvent-laden, API-trace effluent; large teaching hospitals like SGPGI and KGMU with significant biomedical and sewage treatment requirements; and a food manufacturing industry servicing one of India's largest urban markets. Chikankari embroidery units — a Lucknow cultural industry — generate textile processing effluent that UPPCB has begun to scrutinise more carefully as it expands into factory-scale production.

The Gomti river is Lucknow's defining compliance pressure point. NGT has specifically directed UPPCB to address Gomti basin industrial pollution, and UPPCB Lucknow has been in active enforcement mode. Pharmaceutical formulation units in Amausi and Chinhat increasingly receive ZLD CTO conditions — no liquid discharge outside the boundary — at the time of consent renewal. UPPCB requires online monitoring (pH, COD, TSS) at ETP outlets for Red category units. Hospital STP compliance is separately enforced with UPPCB inspections focusing on BOD, coliform, and bio-medical waste segregation. The enforcement environment has tightened considerably since 2019 and continues to do so.

Spans Envirotech designs ETP, ZLD, and STP systems for Lucknow's pharma, dairy, food processing, hospital, and garment manufacturing clients. Our pharmaceutical wastewater expertise covers multi-stage biological treatment with activated carbon polishing for API trace removal. For hospitals, we design compact MBBR-based STPs capable of meeting UPPCB's STP discharge standards within institutional space constraints. We provide UPPCB CTE and CTO documentation and online monitoring integration across all project types.

Industry Challenges

Key Environmental Challenges

Pharma ETP — ZLD Conditions and API Trace Removal

Pharmaceutical formulation units in Amausi and Chinhat are Red category industries. UPPCB is increasingly attaching ZLD CTO conditions at consent renewal. Pharma effluent contains active pharmaceutical ingredients (API traces), solvents, cleaning agents, and high COD (1,000–5,000 mg/L). Standard biological treatment alone cannot remove API traces — activated carbon polishing or advanced oxidation is required. ZLD demands RO and MEE/MVR evaporation on top of biological treatment.

Hospital STP — High Pathogen Load, Institutional Constraints

SGPGI and KGMU are among India's largest hospitals by bed count and patient throughput. Hospital wastewater contains pathogens, pharmaceutical residues, disinfectants, and traces of chemotherapy agents. UPPCB mandates functional STPs with fecal coliform removal, BOD <30 mg/L in discharge. Institutional campus planning often limits STP footprint, requiring compact MBR or MBBR solutions. Chlorination or UV disinfection of final effluent is mandatory.

Dairy and Food Processing — BOD Spikes and FOG

Lucknow's dairy and food manufacturing sector — producing milk products, baked goods, namkeen, and ready-to-eat foods — generates high-BOD effluent (BOD 500–3,000 mg/L) with significant fat, oil, and grease loads from production cleaning. Variable production schedules create BOD and flow surges that under-designed ETPs cannot handle. UPPCB's COD limit for food industry discharge is 250 mg/L — difficult to achieve without properly sized equalisation and biological treatment.

Chikankari and Textile Processing — Growing Scrutiny

Lucknow's chikankari garment industry, historically a cottage sector, has expanded into factory-scale embroidery and fabric processing. The dyeing and washing involved generates textile-type effluent with colour, BOD, and TDS. As units scale up, UPPCB increasingly applies industrial consent requirements. Units need properly designed ETPs — coagulation/flocculation for colour and suspended solids, MBBR for BOD — to obtain industrial CTO.

Gomti Basin Compliance — NGT Court Monitoring

Industrial units in Lucknow discharging directly or through city drains to the Gomti river operate under NGT court-monitored compliance. This elevates the consequence of non-compliance beyond standard UPPCB enforcement. UPPCB is required to report periodically to NGT on industrial compliance status in the Gomti basin. Units identified as non-compliant in NGT reports face accelerated closure actions.

Our Solutions

Tailored Wastewater Treatment Solutions

Pharma ETP and ZLD Systems — Amausi, Chinhat

Turnkey pharmaceutical ETPs for Lucknow formulation units — equalisation, physio-chemical pre-treatment, MBBR or MBR biological treatment, secondary clarification, activated carbon polishing for API trace removal, and advanced oxidation (Fenton or UV/H2O2) where required. For ZLD units: RO for water recovery followed by MEE or MVR evaporation. Online pH, COD, and TSS monitoring as required by UPPCB. CTE/CTO documentation included.

Hospital STP — Compact MBBR and MBR

Compact sewage treatment plants for Lucknow's hospitals and medical institutions — MBBR or MBR biological treatment for space efficiency, tertiary filtration, and UV or chlorine disinfection. Final effluent meets UPPCB hospital STP standards: BOD <30 mg/L, COD <250 mg/L, fecal coliform <230 MPN/100 mL. Treated water reuse for horticulture and utility flushing reduces freshwater consumption and disposal costs.

Dairy and Food Processing ETP

Food industry ETPs for Lucknow's dairy and food manufacturers — DAF for fat, oil, and grease removal, MBBR biological treatment for BOD/COD reduction, secondary clarification, and filter press sludge dewatering. Equalisation tank sizing to handle production surges. UPPCB CTO documentation and online monitoring support. Biogas recovery from high-BOD streams available for large dairy operations.

Chikankari and Textile ETP

ETPs for chikankari and textile processing units in Lucknow — coagulation/flocculation with colour removal, MBBR biological treatment, secondary clarification, and sludge management. Compact, low-footprint designs suitable for the smaller factory sizes typical of Lucknow's garment sector. UPPCB CTO compliance documentation.

STP for Commercial and Institutional Developments

Compact MBBR and MBR-based STPs for Lucknow's commercial complexes, residential townships, educational institutions, and government buildings — LDA/LMC compliant. Treated water reuse for irrigation and flushing. GRIHA documentation support available.
