How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1Enter the tank diameter (internal) and the block dimensions (width × depth × height in metres).
  2. 2Set the target number of blocks required by your media specification or process design.
  3. 3Adjust base clearance (space below the bottom layer) and freeboard (space above the top water level) to get the final tank height.
  4. 4Read the plan view (top) to see block layout per layer and the elevation view (side) to verify stacking height and zone dimensions.

Calculation Method

# Blocks in circular footprint (corner-fit method)

For each grid position (x, y) with step = block W × D:

Block fits if ALL 4 corners satisfy: x² + y² ≤ (D/2)²

# Layer & height calculations

Layers required = ⌈Target blocks ÷ Blocks per layer⌉

Stack height = Layers × Block height (m)

Total tank height = Base clearance + Stack height + Freeboard (m)

Note on block fitting: The calculator uses a conservative corner-fit method — a block is included only if all four of its plan-view corners fall within the tank circle. This avoids overhanging blocks at the tank wall and reflects practical installation constraints.
