Chemical Dosing Calculator
Calculate daily chemical consumption, stock solution requirements, and dosing pump rate for coagulants, disinfectants, and pH adjustment chemicals used in water and wastewater treatment.
Free · 8 Chemicals · Dosing Pump SizingChemical Dosing Parameters
Calculate daily chemical consumption, stock solution requirement, and dosing pump rate.
Note: Dose varies with raw water turbidity. Jar test recommended.
Typical: 20–50 mg/L
As-prepared solution concentration
How to Use This Calculator
- 1Select the chemical you are dosing. Typical dose ranges are shown to guide your input.
- 2Enter the flow rate (KLD) of the stream being dosed and the dose in mg/L from your design or jar test.
- 3Enter the stock solution strength (%) you will prepare on-site. The calculator returns stock volume and pump rate.
Formulas
Chemical consumption (kg/day) = Flow (KLD) × Dose (mg/L) ÷ 1000
Stock solution (L/day) = Chemical (kg/d) ÷ (Stock% ÷ 100 × density kg/L)
Dosing pump rate (L/hr) = Stock solution (L/day) ÷ 24
Typical Dose Ranges
| Chemical | Typical Dose (mg/L) | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Alum | 20–50 | Coagulation |
| PAC | 10–40 | Coagulation |
| Ferric Chloride | 20–60 | Coagulation / P removal |
| Chlorine / NaOCl | 2–10 | Disinfection |
| Lime | 50–300 | pH correction / P removal |
| Caustic Soda | 50–500 | pH increase |
Note: Always confirm dose by jar test / pilot trial. Optimal dose varies with water quality.
