Monobelt Dewatering Systems
Continuous belt filter press technology for efficient sludge dewatering with high throughput and consistent cake dryness
Overview
About Monobelt Dewatering Systems
Monobelt dewatering technology represents an advanced approach to sludge volume reduction, utilizing a single-belt filtration system combined with vacuum or gravity drainage. This continuous process efficiently separates water from sludge, producing a high-solids cake suitable for disposal or further processing while minimizing operational complexity. It is complementary to other mechanical dewatering technologies — notably belt filter presses (which use dual belts and compression rollers for higher-throughput applications) and screw presses (which use a rotating screw for continuous clog-free dewatering at low energy).
The system operates by distributing conditioned sludge onto a porous moving belt, where filtrate drains through the belt media under vacuum or gravity. Progressive dewatering occurs as the sludge travels along the belt, with increasing drainage efficiency achieved through optimized belt permeability and flight bar configurations that promote water release.
Spans Envirotech's Monobelt systems feature robust construction with corrosion-resistant materials, automated polymer dosing systems, and variable speed controls for adapting to different sludge characteristics. Our designs emphasize reliability, ease of maintenance, and consistent performance across municipal and industrial applications.

Process
Dewatering Process
Sludge Conditioning
Raw sludge is mixed with polymer flocculants in static or dynamic mixers, forming larger flocs that release water more readily during dewatering.
Belt Distribution
Conditioned sludge is evenly distributed onto the moving porous belt through a spreader box, ensuring uniform loading across the belt width.
Gravity Drainage
Initial free water drains through the belt by gravity as the sludge moves along the drainage zone. Flight bars or plows gently agitate the sludge to open drainage channels.
Vacuum Dewatering
Vacuum applied beneath the belt accelerates water removal, drawing filtrate through the sludge matrix and belt media into collection troughs.
Cake Discharge
Dewatered cake (15-30% solids) is scraped from the belt at the discharge end. The belt passes through washing and cleaning systems before returning to the feed zone.
