Fine Bar Screens
Mechanical bar screening with 3-10mm spacing for reliable preliminary treatment and equipment protection
Overview
What is Fine Bar Screens?
Fine bar screens represent essential preliminary treatment equipment, removing smaller debris, plastics, and fibrous materials that pass through coarse screens but could damage pumps, clog pipes, or interfere with downstream biological and physical treatment processes. With bar spacing ranging from 3-10mm, these screens provide a critical defense layer protecting treatment assets.
Mechanical fine bar screens feature either step screens with ascending flights or chain-and-flight mechanisms that continuously remove captured screenings. Automatic operation ensures consistent performance without manual cleaning, while robust construction handles peak flows and shock loads. Stainless steel construction and corrosion-resistant components ensure long service life in aggressive wastewater environments.
Spans Envirotech supplies fine bar screens from leading manufacturers, engineered for reliability and low maintenance. Our screening solutions incorporate optimized hydraulics, automated washing systems, and integrated screenings handling to provide complete, turnkey screening stations that protect treatment infrastructure while minimizing operational costs.
Process
Screening Process
Channel Flow
Wastewater flows through an inlet channel containing angled bar screens. The inclined installation allows partially screened water to flow underneath while solids accumulate on bars.
Solids Retention
Debris, plastics, rags, and fibrous materials larger than bar spacing (3-10mm) are captured on the upstream screen face while screened water passes through.
Automatic Raking
Rotating rakes or ascending steps move along the screen face, collecting accumulated screenings and lifting them above the water level toward the discharge point.
Screenings Washing
Spray nozzles wash organic matter from screenings back into the flow, reducing screenings volume and weight. This dewatering improves handling and disposal efficiency.
Discharge & Compaction
Screenings discharge into hoppers, conveyors, or compactors for volume reduction before disposal. Screened wastewater continues to downstream treatment.
