Textile Dyeing ZLD — Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Karur
All textile dyeing and bleaching units in Tamil Nadu must implement ZLD under TNPCB mandates. Dyeing effluent has high colour, TDS (2,000–12,000 mg/L), BOD, and surfactants. ZLD requires colour removal, biological treatment, RO, and MEE/MVR evaporation — >90% water recovery. Older ZLD systems installed in the 2000s often need membrane upgrades and control system modernisation.
Tannery Effluent — Vellore and Ranipet
India's largest tannery cluster at Vellore/Ranipet generates chromium-rich effluent from chrome tanning, high-BOD wastewater from soaking and pickling, and sulfide from liming.
