Anti-Scale & Anti-Rust Water Treatment Pellets

Chemical-free pellets that prevent mineral scale and pipe rust — no softener, no resins, no backwash, and 5–10 year service life

Overview

What is Anti-Scale & Anti-Rust Water Treatment Pellets?

Anti-scale and anti-rust water treatment pellets provide passive, chemical-free protection against the two most common causes of water system degradation: calcium and magnesium scale deposition (hardness), and iron corrosion (rust). The pellets work by modifying the crystalline structure of hardness minerals as water flows through a pellet bed — converting calcium and magnesium ions into tiny, soft colloidal particles that cannot adhere to pipe walls, heat transfer surfaces, or membrane surfaces. Instead of forming hard scale deposits, the modified minerals remain in suspension and are carried harmlessly through the system.

Simultaneously, the pellets address iron corrosion by catalysing the conversion of ferric oxide (the active corrosion product that creates rust) into magnetite — a stable, dense iron compound that forms a thin, adherent protective layer on ferrous pipe surfaces. This protective magnetite layer physically prevents water and oxygen from reaching the underlying metal, stopping further corrosion without the use of corrosion inhibitor chemicals.

The system requires no electricity, no chemical dosing, no regeneration, no backwash, and no resins — it consists simply of a vessel containing the pellet bed through which the water supply passes. Installation is quick, online (without system shutdown), and requires minimal space. Pellet service life is 5–10 years under normal operating conditions, after which the pellets are replaced. This represents a fundamental simplification compared to conventional softening, chemical dosing, or scale inhibitor injection systems.

Process

How Anti-Scale Pellets Work

1

Water Flow Through Pellet Bed

The raw water supply passes upward through a vessel containing the pellet bed. Contact time with the pellets is sufficient to modify the behaviour of dissolved hardness minerals and iron species without any chemical addition.

2

Hardness Crystal Modification

Calcium and magnesium ions interact with the pellet surface, causing their crystal structure to change from the aragonite form (which adheres to surfaces) to the calcite form (which remains in suspension as soft, non-adherent colloids). These modified crystals pass harmlessly through the system.

3

Rust Prevention via Magnetite Formation

Ferric oxide (rust) on pipe surfaces is converted to magnetite — a chemically stable iron compound that forms a dense, protective layer on the pipe interior. This layer seals the metal surface against water and oxygen contact, stopping ongoing corrosion.

Benefits

Key Advantages

  • No chemicals required — eliminates chemical procurement, handling, and dosing costs
  • No demineralization plant, water softener, or ion exchange resins needed
  • No backwash, regeneration, or resin replacement — minimal ongoing maintenance
  • 5–10 year pellet life provides low lifecycle cost versus continuous chemical dosing
  • Energy-free operation — no pumps or power required for the treatment vessel
  • Very small footprint allows online installation into existing pipework without major civil work
  • Prevents both scale (hardness) and rust (iron corrosion) in a single treatment step
  • No product water waste versus conventional ion exchange softeners
  • Protects downstream equipment — RO membranes, heat exchangers, cooling towers, boilers
